DESCRIPTION:St. Paul Hikers.  This year’s Spring hike/walk is the perfect antidote to the late Spring heat of the desert —  a visit to Mt. Rubidoux in historic Riverside\, one of Southern California’s most revered and essential local landmarks\, coupled with a lovely stroll among the elegant Victorian homes\, craftsman bungalows and tree-lined streets of one of Southern California’s most surprising and charming cities. \nWhere: Mt. Rubidoux  Park\, 4706 Mt. Rubidoux Drive\, Riverside\, California \nAbout:  First developed as a local tourist attraction in 1906 by Mission Inn founder Frank Miller\, the short 500-foot ascent of Mt. Rubidoux\, punctuated by picturesque buildings and panoramic vistas of the Inland Empire quickly became an essential part of any visit to Southern California’s original “Orange Capital\,” and has been visited by presidents\, movie stars and generations of locals.  The scenic trail and rocky summit is home to the first and oldest Easter Sunrise service in the United States and offers some of the most breathtaking views in Southern California\, while the lower slopes are covered in luxurious trees\, flowers and stately old homes.  Definitely one of the “must-visits” of any well-rounded Southern California sojourn. \nThe Trail:  A very easy 520 foot ascent and descent along a wide\, paved\, 2.2 mile trail\, with all sorts of wonderful scenic views and stops along the way\, with a short “add-on” walk through historic residential neighborhoods. \nWhat to Bring:  Bring the usual – good walking shoes\, water\, a hat and sunscreen. \nDogs:  Dogs are welcome on this trail.  Do make sure to bring “pick up” supplies to clean up after your pet. \nStay for the Day: Riverside has many other activities\, restaurants and sights to see that make the drive from the desert more than worthwhile.  I will have information and directions available for anyone interested in making the morning hike into a fun and fascinating day-trip. \nParking and Meeting Place:  Details on meeting place and parking will be supplied as the day approaches. \nRegister Today!
