SUMMARY:7 Signs of John Class
DESCRIPTION:So I Send You: A Discipleship Study Based on the 7 Signs in the Gospel of John \n‘Signs point us toward something. These are the signs of God’s kingdom breaking in here on earth.” As a group\, we explore our role(s) in God’s kingdom on earth as well as our going forth to bring the light of Christ into all we touch. We explore hospitality\, pray for healing (grace through faith)\, embrace wholeness\, reach for abundance\, face fear\, examine intent\, and ask for faith. \n“Through his life on earth\, Jesus proved that working alone or even in small groups really can change the world. There are no small acts. He sends us out into the world as his disciples to continue his work. This study is designed to explore our individual\, unique calls as we seek to do the work we are given to do.” \nLed By: The Rev. Dcn. Cris South \nCris South is an ordained deacon who was raised to service in the Diocese of Hawai’i on the island of Maui. She has been in the Episcopal Church for about 20 years and was ordained 10 years ago. One of her favorite things is to sit in groups for discussions and renewal. She was born and raised in NC\, lived in Hawai’i for 16 years\, and moved to SoCal 6 years ago. She is retired from official church service. She is married to the love of her life\, Barbara\, and will celebrate 30 years together in September.

SUMMARY:Forgiveness: Centering or a Cudgel?
DESCRIPTION:In this three-part series\, we’ll use The Book of Forgiveness by Desmond and Mpho Tutu as our shared guide. We’ll explore forgiveness as a practice that steadies us amid conflict\, injury\, hatred\, and fear—and as a pathway to inner peace\, wellbeing\, and spaciousness of heart. We’ll also name how “forgiveness” can be misused as a spiritual shortcut\, a demand for silence\, or a way to bypass accountability. Expect thoughtful conversation and practical reflection on the relationship between forgiveness\, truth-telling\, repair\, compassion\, and justice—so forgiveness becomes a source of strength and freedom\, not a weapon. \nThe Very Rev. Robert V. Taylor’s spirituality was forged in the struggle against apartheid. In 1980\, Archbishop Desmond Tutu sent him to the United States to avoid imprisonment. In 2000\, Tutu traveled to Seattle to participate in the installation of the Robert as Dean of Saint Mark’s Cathedral – the first openly gay dean of an Anglican cathedral. He continues to teach and write at the intersection of spiritual practices\, healing\, justice and wellbeing. \nWe will be using the following book for this class: The Book of Forgiving: The Fourfold Path for Healing Ourselves and Our World\, By Archbishop Desmond Tutu & Mpho Tutu. \nIt is available for purchase online https://tinyurl.com/54b625zv  \nLed By: Led by Rev. SUMMARY:Path Ahead Class
DESCRIPTION:The Path Ahead: Spirituality & Purpose in Later Life℠ is a curriculum from the Episcopal Diocese of Washington DC\, on the spirituality of aging that combines guided discussion with contemplative practices to reframe aging for persons of faith. Over six sessions\, participants grapple with ageism\, identify changing spiritual needs\, equip themselves with new prayer practices\, and engage in discernment about God’s continuing call. Rejecting stereotypical views of aging that define it in terms of a singular narrative of decline\, The Path Ahead: Spirituality & Purpose in Later Life℠ instead reveals this season of life as a time of spiritual growth and pursuit of purpose. Employing video presentations\, directed discussion\, contemplative practices\, and the arts\, The Path Ahead: Spirituality & Purpose in Later Life℠ encourages connection\, builds community\, and promotes wellbeing. \nLed by: The Rev. Dale Carr \nRev. Dale Carr. Dale is an Episcopal Priest and retired Board Certified Chaplain. He spent 18 years as Chaplain and Spiritual Care Supervisor with a PACE organization (Program for All-inclusive Care of the Elderly) in Portland Oregon. He retired and with his husband Ken Ballard\, moved to Palm Springs and St Paul’s in 2022. Since retirement he has been on his own journey of discerning the “The Path Ahead”. He completed the EDOW facilitator training for this Curriculum and facilitated one cohort of St Paul’s Parishioners in the Fall of 2024.
